In 1983 Spence saw the need for establishing of a major public relations and corporate marketing consultancy on the Gold Coast, before founding Promedia Pty Ltd.
This company was restructured in 2004 with Spence divesting his interests to establish Spence Consulting Pty Ltd which functions in association with The Focal Point Group, providing total marketing and sales support services.

Track record - at a glance
- Spence has been involved with real estate project marketing dating back to 1983 to a Gold Coast land development being marketed by Gold Coast based PRD Realty. The project was sold out in a week in a difficult market with an innovative public relations and advertising strategy. The developer was Tony Bawden – later to become Villa World Chairman and the project manager , PRD Joint Managing Director, Gordon Douglas.
- This project began an enduring professional association between Spence and PRD (now PRD Nationwide) Joint Managing Director, Gordon Douglas, spanning almost two decades. Working directly with Gordon and brother, Archie, Spence personally provided diverse services to PRD including national publicity for the firm’s Gold Coast and Brisbane corporate offices and for the then franchise network.
Spence also was responsible for the re-branding of the company is association with the expansion of the franchise network and introduced research based marketing strategies used by the company to this day. During the period of Spence’s personal involvement company, Gordon Douglas became one of Australia’s highest profile real estate executives and PRD achieved outstanding national growth.
- Spence pioneered the use of market research to generate high levels of publicity for property sector clients, working extensively in the eighties with national media including The Australian and The Australian Financial Review.
- Spence worked extensively with some of the Gold Coast’s most successful and respected development companies of the eighties. They included McMaster Developments – developer of more than 40 residential and commercial high rise projects in Queensland. Spence worked continuously for this company for eight years until the death of Ron McMaster. During a difficult prevailing markets he implemented public relations strategies producing sales in landmark projects such as Bayview Harbour, then Australia’s largest residential - marina project with four high rise towers and extensive marina and community facilities. At the same time he was employed by the Queensland Government to promote officially launch the Gold Coast Seaway.
- Spence successfully promoted the listing of Raptis Group Ltd and various associated Raptis projects in the eighties.
- Spence produced and implemented the highly successful public relations strategy for Sanctuary Cove, which became recognised as Australia’s and one of the world’s best residential resorts. He also helped to promote the “ Ultimate Event” to launch this project – a extravagant concert featuring Frank Sinatra and Whitney Huston.
- Spence has been employed over the years by a number of multi-national development companies dating back to Japanese investment era on the Gold Coast, and including the entry in the Nineties of Dong Ah corporation of Korea, the original developer of the $100 million The Glades at Robina (a venture cut short by the Asian economic crash). Spence helped Dong Ah to overcome major environmental and local authority issues before this global company’s untimely departure from the marketplace.
- Spence has some very long histories with Gold Coast projects . For example, he publicised the turning of the first sod for the first project at Robina, for then developer Arthur Earle – Spences ’s company continued to meet the Robina Land Corporation’s needs for more than 20 years during which its population grew to more than 20,000.
- Spence worked for more than 15 years with Gold Coast Development Association in staging annual media tours of the Gold Coast for national and international media. During 2004 Spence was employed by the Urban Development Institute of Australia (Tweed- Gold Coast) to produce a media and communications strategy and new visual image.
Spence is a member of the UDIA and provided pro-bono services to the Gold Coast – Tweed branch.
- Spence’s company was employed by many of Queensland’s and Australia’s most successful private and listed development companies including: Mirvac, Australand, FKP , Stockland, Villa World, Sunland, Walker Corporation, Lewis Land Corporation, Nifsan, Vanwell, Baulderstone as well as many other successful private Gold Coast and Brisbane-based development companies.
With experience spanning such a vast array of projects, over many years and
